At the reunion the kids had a treasure hunt and Grandpa was a clue. All the kids had to give him a hug first.

Uncle Jack has one of those old stone chisels. This handle is very short. Sometimes the handles would be 20 ft. long.

This is the address of the home where we stayed. It is impossible to find an address if you can't ask somebody that has been there.

Blanche Marshall is the owner of this house where we stayed. At 87 she is still very spry and our stay with her was so delightful.

The white roofs and pastel houses are beautiful. Every house is painted and looks like it was painted yesterday.

Most every house has a boat or two in the back yard that is just waiting to return to the sea. As you can see from this picture it has been quite some time since these floated and will probably be a while until they do again.

We all have those projects that we are going to get around to. In Bermuda you have to hurry and get at them because things deteriorate very fast and get over grown by the lush vegetation.

There are stone walls everywhere. Many of these walls are very old. This one is without mortar and just random stones.
2007-06-28
This is a new wall built of sawed stone. They saw this stone with chain saws but they used to saw it with hand saws.
2007-06-28
This is an old quarry where they chiseled the stone slabs out by hand. The vertical lines that you can see were made by a chisel.

This is a pile of roof slate. They have been cut out into blocks and then run through a gang saw.

There are old broken down trucks in Bermuda, too. Look at the walls of the old quarry chiseled by hand on the top and the walls of the new quarry made by mechanization on the bottom.

We saw a about three dairy herds on the island. There are lots of red holsteins and they run their bulls with the cows.

Old Douglas was telling us about working with stone he has been doing it for more than 60 yr. Note the lid on the drinking water tank. Everybody catches rain water for drinking. That is the purpose of the white roofs. Douglas took the lid off for us. The Health Departments in our states would have a fit if they could see all of the floaties in this green water. (I wonder how many birds have been on this roof in between rainstorms?)

Part of this old stone house has been here for hundreds of years. Douglas and 13 siblings grew up here. When he bought it from his parents when he was a young man he put in electricity and plumbing. He also has added on to it and and built another home next to it that his daughter lives in. Renters live in the bottom floor.

This was at John Smith's beach. We swam over to this rock and tried to hang on. The waves nearly beat us to death against the rocks. They are very jagged we came away cut and bruised.

Judy's mother's maiden name is Hollis. Judy's grandparents and great-grandparents are buried here. This is at St. Mark's.

I haven't got figured out how to rotate these. A Bermuda Cedar in front of the 300 yr. old Verdmont House.

We saw in the classifieds .17 acres for sale for $550,000. If somebody still owned this 75 acre parcel today it would be worth ??????? You do the math.
2007-06-28
If you zoom in you can see Smith Tribe in about the middle, there are 14 parcels numbering from the left. #13 is the second from the right. Judy's family lived in #2.

Starting with Darwin there have been lots of morons that think this creation of which we are a part happened by accident. This guy is no accident but whoever designed him had a great imagination. They said that if you came in contact with one of these that you should seek medical attention immediately.

While we were snorkeling at Pink Beach we swam right up to 3 of these handsome guys. We got within about 6 feet or so and they would just keep out of our reach but did not leave.
2007-06-27
We tried to take a picture of every flower on the island. We missed a couple but not many.
2006-06-27
We sang "A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief" in the tune that Elder John Taylor probably sang it in that fateful day.

These angus cattle are on the lot where Noah Rogers (our great, great, great-grandfather) had his home. Corner of Samuel & Durfey in Nauvoo.
